I just went to my retailer today and picked up the newest edition of thier distrubuter's catalog....

SAY IT AIN'T SO JOE???

SGB isn't in there!!!!

I wonder if it was dropped or if they quit production or just folded??

I know there are lots of places to get them.. but a good question to pose to the other retailers out there..

Let me know what you think folks..

Maybe I'll have to call "East Coast Karaoke" for the answer to that one.. :?

Wow Brian, This is the first I've heard of this. Whenever I go to East Coast Karaoke I love to talk with the old man "Lenny". The guy is a karaoke Icon. I think he was in the business back from the 8 track days, The guy knows everything.

I wonder If he retired yet? I usually break his b's and he breaks mine by forgetting who I am over and over and over for years.

I have not heard of it either, I was also wondering if anyone new how to get a hold of the manufacturer. The SGB for Wierd Al. The first song is almost two full versus off from the music. I wanted to contact them and see if they were going to fix that and see if I could get a new copy.

actually, I was surprised that many of their country is nearly DEAD bang on! we were playing around with three versions of a song by George Strait. "Write This Down".

The guy that was singing them is a real purist, and the Chartbuster and Sound Choice versions weren't NEARLY as good as the SGB!!

They have some fairly good discs. And some terrible ones. The Cher compilation immediately comes to mind.

Wow,go figure. are these newer releases ?
every song that I've evr tried on SGB was butchered
(faded out missing verses etc.)
not to mention innacuracies in the instrumental parts of the song.
I haven't used one of their discs in a while and
I don't really pay much attention to the background vocals.
thxs for the info though , I'll check it out.

A couple songs I swear by on SGB:

2 out of 3 aint Bad- Meatloaf
I'm a Believer- Smashmouth
Drops of Jupiter- Train
Pour Some Sugar on Me- Def Leppard
You Really got Me- Van Halen
Jump, Jive & Wail- Brian Setzer
Zoot Suit Riot- Cherry Poppin Daddies
Ode to my car- Adam Sandler
Something to Believe in- Poison (only for the music- the words are butchered)
Nothing but a Good time- Poison

Now, do these justify buying the set? Prob not, but if you have the discs anyway, you may want to check these out.

I know they aren't the most popular manufacturer, but they do merit a 2nd look if for nothing else but the price.

My $.02

I got all of the SGB 1 - 66 for $125 on E-bay including a player I used as a Christmas gift. Some of their disks suck and some of them are good. I could not complain much for the price. A lot of customers like the SGB

I don't have anything against them, some are pretty good or really good. Its just that the other major names, as a whole, are better. There's always the exception, but as a rule there's more consistancy with the others. You know going in what to expect and you get it, rather than finding out after the fact.

SGB has some okay material, and some is actually pretty good to me. When it's bad though, it can be really bad. As for Weird Al, I had someone try to sing the first track (Saga Begins) - it was so terrible, he had me shut it off. I didn't even know that song, but knew it stunk. Unfortunately, I forgot to eliminate it from the last printing of my book. I may go ahead and get a big marker and strike it out now that I think about it. Oh yeah, the "standards" tunes can be really strange jazzed up versions - I suggest anyone having them, check them out in advance of a singer request.

One other memorable (bad memory that is) moment was when someone sang "Werewolves of London" as a tribute to Warren Zevon shortly after he passed away. Another bad version, at the worst time (when everyone's paying attention!).

As someone suggested, the set can be a nice reasonably-priced gift for home enthusiasts.

As far as the SGB disks that I've bought over the years ,
I could find only a couple of the Alice Cooper songs that were worth keeping on the roster.

I have found that some SGB are fairly decent.

But i know that our retailer has dropped them from $50.00 australian per disk to $15.00 per disk they are on the way out of australia.

you can get the "PaK" for like $69.00 now. I think it's all 66 discs!

Tonight or tomorrow, I'll have "Cole"'s song we recorded on my website. And it was to a Sweet Georgia Brown disc. We'd tried the Sound Choice and the Chartbuster versions, and the SGB version was FAR superior.

Granted, that's the exception, not the rule. But he did an AWESOME job on the George Strait song!

Will notifiy you guys when it's there! I just finished changing the format of my site to "Frames", and trying to make it less "gaudy" looking!
