KARAOKE SCENE MAGAZINE ONLINE! - voicebox performs Send In The Clowns on Karaoke Showcase - My wife says this song is just to sad but I like it anyway. It was written in 1973 by Stephen Sondheim for the musical “A Little Night Music”. Three nights before opening night he realized that the leading lady did not have a song of her own. He wrote this in one night and it became the most memorable song of the musical. Originally made popular by Judy Collins, this is the Frank Sinatra version. Historically, in the circus when disaster strikes, the clowns are sent in to distract the audiance thus the title "Send in the Clowns." Hope it is not to depressing.

DonnWeinberg Hi, voicebox. As I recall, Sinatra did two versions of this song, very similar to each other. It's a sad, beautiful song. Your singing here is done very sensitively, and thus, is very effective. -- Donn

Jerry Not you but the song....I've never enjoyed it and cannot understand why it found its place in musical history. However, you gave it a very fine sing.
Reply: Yeh Jerry, that pretty much where my wife is at on this song. It's basically a one octive depressing song but for some reason I am attracted to it.

Cantstopsinging Hi Voicebox. I do know the Judy Collins versions. This made for a very pleasant listen as your voice has a personality that draws the ear in- Guess one could say 'authentic' Have you ever done radio work as in broadcasting? Joyce
Reply: Joyce, thanks for your kind comments. I have often been asked over the years if I ever did radio & although I have MC'd many events, I have never done any broadcasting work. Probably to old to start a new career now. Thanks for listening. Bob
