I did read it and it didn't take long...is that all you got? Really? And, my word...the things among those tiny grey folds made ME blush. So, I promise to tell...too many...what I found. Love Lightfoot's catalog and this is a favorite to me. A terrific recording and wonderful listen. |

If You Could Read My Mind.. great song Brad, ... I would have commented on this earlier today, but was seeing if " If You Could Read My Mind" !! Just in case you had trouble getting through (my mind can be quite confusing and blurry at times) I think I better write it down for you!! GREAT SONG GREAT RECORDING and I very very loved listening to your terrific singing this afternoon.. Love Gordan Lightfoot songs and your performance was so very enjoyable! ..... Starlyter - Brad performs If You Could Read My Mind on Karaoke Showcase of Karaoke Scene Magazine Online: Starlyter - Brad performs If You Could Read My Mind on Karaoke Showcase - Lightfoot cited his divorce for inspiring the lyrics. They came to him as he was sitting in a vacant Toronto house one summer. The song compares events in his relationship to a ghost movie and a paperback romance novel. The lyrics include "I don't know where we went wrong. But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back."
At the request of his daughter Ingrid, he performed the lyrics with a slight change: The line "I'm just trying to understand the feelings that you lack" is altered to "I'm just trying to understand the feelings that we lack." Lightfoot said in an interview that the difficulty with writing songs inspired by personal stories is that there is not always the emotional distance and clarity to make lyrical improvements such as the one his daughter suggested.
